REM - Automatic for the people

Automatic for the People continues with the elements folk / country pop / rock classic from previous albums as Green and Out of Time, but with fewer items and general pop with a somber tone. Bono, U2 frontman spoke to this album as "the greatest country album ever made."
The album's title refers to the theme of a restaurant in Athens, Georgia. The photograph on the cover is not related to the restaurant, is a symbol of a motel in Miami, where part of the album was recorded. The album also was recorded in New Orleans.
After Out of Time, a successful album, Automatic for the People entered the U.S. charts in second place, selling over four million copies, and stayed several weeks in the first place in the UK. Despite the success of the new album, REM refused to tour to Automatic for the People, because they had already done for Out of Time last year. Automatic for the People
released six singles, the album of the band easier.
